What Pantone Has To Say
Pantone describes Greenery as a “fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.” This green hue is meant to encourage people to breathe deeply and reset themselves in the new year. Pantone predicts that 2017 will be a turbulent year and that people will need a respite from modern life. Greenery will be that natural, soothing respite. Pantone calls it “A life-affirming shade, [that] is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.”
Color Psychology and Greenery
Color affects us very deeply. Psychologists and interior designers both agree. Humans perceive green as evoking:
- Refreshing and revitalizing
This particular shade of green is very reminiscent of actual greenery. It’s meant to remind us of nature, and the calming, recentering effect that nature usually has.
Interior Decoration and Greenery
All that calming, revitalizing stuff sounds great, doesn’t it? So how can you bring that into your home? There’s lots of different ways to incorporate the Pantone color of the year into your interior decoration.
One way to work with Greenery is to go bold. Paint your walls with it and make it the centerpiece of your decoration. Rooms in this shade of green will become soothing retreats that get you reenergized and ready to face your day. The shade would do well in bathrooms or bedrooms.
If you’re not ready to dive wholeheartedly into the Pantone color of the year, then use it to accent your existing interior design.
Neutrals like cream, beige, grey, and white are very popular for interior design. So if you have one of these neutrals as your color scheme already or want to have it, then you can accent it with Greenery to make the space brighter and more zen. Use accents like pillows, rugs, and curtains to incorporate the hue into your design.
You could also use actual greenery to bring the color in. Succulents are a trendy and hard-to-kill plant that will surely brighten up the place. But really, any houseplant will do.
This shade goes really well with lots of different colors. Pantone actually has a list of colors that pair well with Greenery on its website. Colors like lighter grays, creams and whites, and even navy blue work well with green! Don’t be afraid to test out the color with some of your favorites and see if the pairings work.
