What to reuse and what to replace during your kitchen remodel
Let’s face it–a kitchen remodel is expensive. Sure, it’s worth it, but it’s a lot of cash.
Because of this, a lot of people try to find ways to save money. Planning and managing the remodel by yourself, DIY-ing some parts, and of course, reusing some things.
The point of a kitchen remodel is that you don’t like the way your kitchen looks or functions. But that doesn’t mean it’s all bad! It’s just important for you to make sure that you’re not buying yourself hassle and stress with all the money yo’d save by reusing some things.
Here are some guidelines for what you can and can’t reuse during your kitchen remodel
Appliances can be tricky. They’re expensive to buy and to fix.
You can keep them if they’re relatively new (if you bought them within five years) and they’ve never had to be repaired.
If they’re older and have had lots of problems, it’s probably time to let them go. And if they really don’t go with the new design, you can’t keep them; no matter how great they still are.
If they’re still in great shape, go ahead and keep them. If they look new and work great, then why not? If you have a good quality, attractive set of plumbing fixtures, then it makes sense to keep them.
But if they leak or wiggle, get rid of them. If they’re really old, they could have lead in them. Obviously, it’s not a good idea to drink water that travels through lead.
This one is pretty cut and dry. If they fit on your remodeled area and it goes with the redecoration, then you’re probably good to go. Reusing your countertops can save you a lot of money.
However, if you have an old, ugly linoleum countertop, replacing it with a gorgeous stone can make a huge impact. It’s one of the biggest ways to make a statement with your kitchen remodel.
If your lighting fixtures are attractive or subtle enough to make it work in your new kitchen, go ahead. As long as they’re up to code and don’t stick out like a sore thumb, you’re probably good to go.
